The Mast-Peters partnership began very early in 1982. It was on February 2, 1982 that two creative and motivated individuals came together to create a dynamic team. While owning and directing a highly successful salon, spa, and retail company Dayton Mast and Cremmen Peters traveled and searched many corners of the earth to find the best and most creative new items and products for their loyal cliental. One of the retail areas that became very well known was the candle selection. After carrying many of the world’s finest candle lines, the two innovators decided to create a product line which would reflect their own tastes and criteria. It had to be the best!

The new candles took almost a year of development and hours of research. The best waxes and blends of waxes were tested, as were the wicks, the perfume oils, and the essential oils. Materials from every corner of the globe were assessed and scrutinized. The goal of Mast and Peters was to achieve a beautiful slow burning candle that would be pleasing to the eye and have a maximum scent throw, whether lighted or not. Also, the esthetic nature of the candle was important, and the creators decided on a gift candle presentation in beautiful fabric bags rather than in traditional boxes. (These are usually nice but are almost always thrown away.) The fabric bag, instead, could be used on which to place the candle. This presentation protects the table surface and is also a very European style. After the candle is used many people use the bags for carrying jewelry, or for any number of purposes.

The logo for the company was created after some deliberation. It is a tutu, and symbolizes the date 2/2 in 1982 that the creators began their partnership. It was thought that the shape alludes to the freedom and discipline of the creative process both in the dance and in candle making. And the tutu seemed a better choice than the alternative use of a ground hog. Although, there is certainly nothing wrong with those furry little creatures for whom we wait on February 2 to determine the possibility of 6 more weeks of winter or not.

Because the Mast-Peters Fine Candles are custom blended and hand poured, they should be used by people who appreciate fine scents and exceptional quality. When first burning a Mast-Peters candle it is suggested that you light the candle and let it burn initially for 2-3 hours. This assures perfect burning and long lasting results. Mast-Peters Fine Candles uses only the finest non-lead zinc core wicks. These wicks were chosen for their strength and cool burning qualities. After the first lighting it is imperative to trim the wick to about ¼ of an inch before future lightings. This allows the candle continue to burn cleanly, and with out any smoking. Keeping the candle out of drafts is also very important and also away from children or pets. Never leave candles unattended or near flammable materials. Do not move your candle when the wax is still hot or while it is burning. With proper care and use the Mast-Peters Fine Candles will bring at least 70-80 hours of perfect ambience to any environment. Throw one in your suitcase for your next trip to scent your hotel suite. Take along more for gifts for friends and family. Enjoy!!!
